Kappa Alpha Pi would like to thank you so very much for your interest in our fraternity.
If you’re seeking more information after Rush or are just now researching what exactly Kappa Alpha Pi is, you’re probably asking yourself, “So what does this organization do, anyway?” and, furthermore, “Why should I rush?” Listed below are just some of the many reasons why KAPi could potentially be a great fit for you, and just what the fraternity can do for you as a potential member. We want you to benefit as much as possible from joining an organization like KAPi and would love to share with you all that we’ve learned and experienced in this fraternity. Here’s just a taste of what we’re all about:
- Networking
Through Kappa Alpha Pi there are constant opportunities to meet with professionals (judges, lawyers, and law professors), law students (in law schools of all ranks and prestige), and peers who share one great and common interest: law. In doing so, members are exposed to the ups and downs of the field through one-on-one interaction with these professionals, giving them not only contact information and job opportunities, but insight into the lives of lawyers. Through Kappa Alpha Pi’s membership in the Professional Fraternity Council (PFC) at UCLA, we also interact with other students studying and working to join other competitive work forces – medicine, business, health, and dental – giving us, again, the networking edge over the average UCLA student.
- Professional Development
Kappa Alpha Pi offers professional growth opportunities to all of its members through educational workshops and hands-on training. Learn about designing the perfect resume, public speaking, professional dress do’s and don’ts, interview etiquette, the basics of applying to law school, and an introduction to the components of the LSAT. With these skills, KAPi members have an incredible and competitive advantage in the workplace, in law school, and in life. Kappa Alpha Pi also throws open events to the campus pre-law community, educating students (and ourselves) on legal specialties, what it takes to be a law student, and the lives of lawyers and judges.
- A Better GPA
A fraternity founded on the advancement of its members to the ultimate goal of law school definitely finds much of its emphasis on supporting the academic betterment of its members. Since GPA is so heavily weighted in law school applications, Kappa Alpha Pi is a place where members can find endless information about which classes to take, what professors to avoid, and study buddies for exams. With brothers taking classes together, studying together, and stress-relieving with each other, we encourage each other in our academic endeavors and have the chance to spend time together, too, boosting brotherhood and our GPAs.
- Giving Back
Kappa Alpha Pi is founded on three pillars of Brotherhood, Professionalism, and Service. As members of the fraternity, as UCLA students, as Los Angeles residents, as people who live on this earth, we feel it is our duty to give back to the community that we all live and breathe in. From beach clean-ups to feeding the homeless to working with underprivileged families and children, Kappa Alpha Pi is active in its community and encourages all brothers to participate in giving back to the community just as much as it actively encourages brotherhood and professionalism.
- Time Well Spent
KAPi offers a wide variety of social and brotherhood events to its members as a means of deepening friendships, exploring the city, and just letting loose. From dinners and frozen yogurt outings to retreats and themed parties, the fraternity definitely has a fun, exciting, and even silly side to counteract the professionalism conducted in meetings and at professional events. Without an outlet for fun outside of the academic side of UCLA, the campus can be a pretty lonely place. As a member of KAPi, you’ll have the means to get out of the Westwood bubble and share some good times with great people.
- New Friends
In even the first few days after joining Kappa Alpha Pi, you’ll have already made more than forty new friends here at UCLA. At a school as big as ours, the ability to feel a connection to a small part of such a big campus is vital to your happiness as a student at UCLA. In Kappa Alpha Pi, you won’t just find acquaintances, or competitors for a spot in law school, you’ll find people who you’ll come to know and love as friends and brothers.
- Brotherhood
Having brothers in KAPi means more than having good friends to have good times with, it means having a family. Throughout your time at UCLA and beyond, you’ll find, once you’re a member of Kappa Alpha Pi, that brotherhood goes beyond friendship to a place of stability through thick and thin, where disagreements are petty in the grand scheme of the deep bonds we all share. Despite being an organization made up of opinionated, outspoken, and driven individuals, we are able to run a fraternity based on compassion and understanding of one another. It’s been said that brotherhood is something that cannot be understood from the outside looking in, so you’ll have to come try it out for yourself by joining the family.
- Decisions, Decisions
As undergrads, we are all at a pivotal point in our lives in deciding just how to answer this question: “What are you going to do after you graduate?” With the issues of law school vs. grad school and time off vs. straight to law school, as well as daunting options like joint degrees and deferment, future plans can be daunting and scary. What our fraternity really prides itself on is its ability to help you choose if law school is right for you. By interacting with professionals who have dedicated their lives to the field of law, you will have the opportunity to find out if it truly is the life you’ve dreamed of. By giving its members the opportunity to experience the lives of law students and of lawyers, KAPi has truly helped its members make an educated decision on going to law school…or not.
We hope that any of the questions you’ve had have been answered with these fun facts about Kappa Alpha Pi. Thank you to everyone who has come out to Rush so far and looking forward to those of you we’ll meet later this week!
